What We Do - Training & Nutrition
CROSSFIT TRAINING
CrossFit Purgatory is an elite strength and conditioning facility in beautiful Tucson, Arizona. We use and implement CrossFit classes as our principle training program simply because we have found it to be the most effective way to produce elite fitness. Our goal is to increase an individuals overall work capacity. We progress towards this through many different sport modalities, including but not limited to: Olympic lifting, kettlebell training, gymnastics, running and sprinting, Strong Man training, climbing, rowing, and throwing. In doing so, our athletes become stronger, faster, and mentally tougher. Specifically, we strive to build and improve the following ten components of fitness: cardiorespiratory endurance, stamina, speed, strength, power, flexibility, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. Add all of those components a few times a week in a one hour class each time and that’s how elite fitness begins. Superior strength and fitness allows our athletes to go out and succeed in whatever comes their way, no matter the circumstance or context.
Each CrossFit class is a combination of a warm-up, skill-work, a WOD (workout of the day) and cool down/stretch. You may do a WOD different than the person next to you, depending on your goals, but the movements will essentially be the same as the person next to you. We have the ability to scale workouts to your ability but also to tweak them slightly to get you to your goal (Football player vs. Triathlete, as an example). Your Purgatory coach will be your trainer, your guide, your CrossFit mentor and biggest fan.
We are a family-friendly facility and while we do not provide childcare, we do have a very nice area for kids to stay occupied while you workout. Come see for yourself!
NUTRITION
By now, we all know that nutrition is as important, if not more so than physical fitness, but it's the synergy of the two together that gets people the physiological results they want. At CrossFit Purgatory, we prescribe Paleo eating for our athletes. What is that exactly? Well, it's this in a nutshell:
Pretty simple, right? Well, it is. There's really no good reason to make it complicated as this is how our paleolithic ancestors ate for years "It's so easy, a caveman could do it." Many people are very confused about why we don't recommend people eat grains. Grains are terrible for you, that's why ~ most of you are probably allergic and/or intolerant to them and don't even know it. We are just beginning to uncover the many diseases/ailments and so-called conditions that exist as a result of our modern day diet. ADHD, depression, anxiety, infertility, chronic fatigue, migraines, eczema, restless leg syndrome, irritable bowel diease, and the list goes on and on, all the way to cancer, obesity and death. All of our coaches live a Paleo eating lifestyle and can help you with your transition, although Marcy is the "powerhouse" behind the nutrition counseling and consulting at Purgatory. Marcy and her two daughters are wheat intolerant and had switched to an anti-wheat lifestyle before ever learning of Paleo eating. There wasn't much difference but since studying the Paleo lifestyle in great length, she's found other good reasons to eat like a caveman. Marcy as well as all of the coaches have broad knowledge in nutrition counseling and will help answer all of your questions. All we ask is that you at least try it - give us 30 days to prove to you that you will feel better, sleep better and look better than ever before. When you join CFP, we'll give you the tools you need to succeed on your journey to health, wellness and fitness.We also host Paleo parties every quarter where you will get to experience how wonderful paleo eating can be, even in a social enviornment. In addition to that, we host UFC fights with Paleo foods every quarter as well - when you try Marcy's carnita tacos, you'll realize how easy it is to eat like a caveman in style!
