Training for Your Goals

It’s early January, and everyone is all about goals! What are your goals this year? Nail those butterfly pull-ups? 10 Handstand pushups? Obtaining the ever-revered muscle up? Although CrossFit is widely known as a group exercise environment, every one of us are ultimately individuals, and at some point will need a little extra direction if we want to make significant progress in the goals we set for ourselves. Even if it’s just a matter of drilling in the basics, everyone can benefit from a one-on-one session. Here’s a list of 4 great reasons to consider adding a session or two of Personal Training or 30 Minute Skill Session to your routine:

1. Motivation

Most of us work harder in the presence of others, which is why a lot of us CrossFit!  But having the focused attention of a coach in the form of even one personal training or skill session can provide the encouragement, energy and motivation you need to reinvigorate your commitment to reaching your goals. Do you want to run your first 5K or prepare for a backpacking trip? Working one-on-one with a coach will provide you the fastest and most direct route to get you there, and help keep you focused and on track in the process. 

2. Clarity

Fitness can be confusing. There is a lot of information to sort through. Eat this, not that. Cardio before or after strength training? Your coach can help you find credible information and provide direction on your fitness journey. Is there some accessory work you can use to move closer to your goals outside the WOD? Is there an emphasis you can place on how you scale or adjust your daily WOD which will support your overarching intent? Talking through a plan of action one-on-one with the guidance of a coach can help remove the guesswork so you can put all your energy toward accomplishing your goals.

3. Confidence

The box can be intimidating, especially for a new CrossFitter. Working with a coach allows you to become more confident with how to perform exercises, use the equipment, and take care of your body so you can keep chasing your goals. Not to mention, being confident in the WOD makes it so much more effective and fun! After a few sessions, you will feel ready to tackle the WOD room on your own. 

4. Avoid Injury

If you are new to CrossFit or find that some movements are painful, it is worth spending time in personal training with an experienced coach to be certain that you are moving in a safe and effective way. Taking the time to learn proper exercise technique can improve your results and prevent annoying injuries, which can be particularly true as we age and our bodies change, is so important. Training with a coach can help you adjust or adapt your workout as you age, which will allow you to maintain functionality and strength
