August Purgee of the Month!

Here we are again, coming up on the end of the month and time to recognize another athlete who personifies what it means to be a Purgee! Dave Lake has stuck with us through thick and thin over the last few years, and is always willing to lend a hand, whether it is helping fix computers or taking wicked cool photos at events! Every day he's showing up to the 3:15 class, ready to work with a fantastic attitude and not a hint of ego. You just can't find a nicer guy - plus he always has the best color coordinating outfits (per the 2017 Purgee Awards!) Congratulations Dave, we are so lucky to have you be part of our community!

Where are you from? What brought you to Tucson?

Born in Michigan. Came here to go to U of A (double major - Electrical Engineering & Nuclear Engineering)

How long have you been a CrossFitter, and why did you start?

3 years, Needed to keep the "old guy" away - Wife's Co-worker (Rob) kept telling me how great this Crossfit stuff was.

Which movement is your favorite?

You should ask my least favorite, I've got a list for that!  Favorite is probably Clean & Jerk. That feeling of success holding "all the weights" overhead is pretty cool.

How have you improved the most?

Become a more balanced athlete.  I had no lower body or core strength at all 3 years ago.  They are getting caught up.  I've added over 100lbs to my back squat since I joined.

If you were stuck on a desert island, and could only have one food forever, what would it be?

Does this island have milk?  Cuz Lucky Charms are no good dry!

What do you love about being at CrossFit Purgatory?

The camaraderie. Real people helping each other be better people.

What keeps you motivated?

Results.  Seeing and feeling results drives me to push on those moments of struggle and doubt.

If I'm not at the box, you can probably find me...

In front of a computer screen editing photos.  The answer should have been: out hiking, but that does not happen nearly enough.

One interesting thing about yourself not related to CrossFit:

If I could "do it all over again" I would be a race car driver.
